It looks like there is a major trend afoot. In our March 2003 issue, we discussed Ruby Tuesday's new menu that included nutritional information (click to read). Now, Red Lobster has joined the bandwagon with their a new LightHouse Menu designed to provide guests with nutritional information for some of the company's most popular menu items. Available at the more than 670 Red Lobster restaurants throughout North America, the new menu lists over 30 items, including an appetizer, numerous entrees, side dishes, dipping sauces and beverages, with the calorie, carbohydrate and fat content for each.
We predict that full nutritional information on restaurant menus will shortly become a standard practice in the industry, something that consumers will expect. Consumers want choices, and they want full information with which to make their choices.
