In our September 2004 issue, we reported that the number of home-schooled children in the U.S. grew from 800,000 in 1999 to 1.1 million in 2003. New data from the National Home Education Research Institute indicates the number of home-schoolers was even higher in 2003, somewhere between 1.7 million and 2.1 million. This would equal almost 4% of all children in that age group.
