If the Environment Is the Third Teacher, What Does She Say?

All too often, early childhood environments are over-stimulating and visually distracting. The U.S. is a land of "stuff," and we have a proliferation of choices as to what we want to communicate through our environments. The questions I ask of a program:

  • "Is this a welcoming vision?"
  • "Would this be how you'd want to welcome someone to your home?"
  • "What does this environment really say?"
