The new NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children) accreditation criteria include a much needed section on Environmental Health. Standard 9.D.08 states that early childhood programs should use Integrated Pest Management to control pests in facilities. If you need more resources on the topic, read "Natural Ways to Handle Pests in the Child Care Environment" and "Simple Facility Upgrades Can Discourage Pests" in the back issues of the Children's Learning Environments eNewsletter.
Also, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health has prepared a resource, "Reducing Pesticide Exposure in Schools." This resource guide explains Integrated Pest Management in detail and provides further resources for study.
