Architects and interior designer are two design professions who, along with our other specialists in children's environments, are part of our design team for high quality interior spaces for young children. There is a difference between how an architect and interior designer are trained. An architect is trained in creating a structural building that meets national, state and local building codes. The interior designer is trained in creating a functional and quality interior environment. Architects are more focused on the technical requirements, interior designers on the human psychology and emotional aspects of spaces. In our design work, we rely heavily upon the expertise of the interior designer and our education director to allocate, organize and arrange spaces to suit their function for staff, children and parental needs.
An interior designer is not to be confused with an interior decorator. While
both designers are concerned with aesthetics, style and mood, interior designers
provide various services including developing documents and specifications
relative to interior spaces in compliance with applicable building and safety
codes, creating illustrations and renderings and selecting and specifying
fixtures, products, materials and colors. An interior decorator only works
with surface decoration-paint, fabric and other materials.
