Provided a pre-conference training day on sustainable Head Start environments called “Green Goes with Everything: The Head Start Institute on Creating Sustainable Environments” Also provided director and teacher training on how to set up interesting and inexpensive naturalized outdoor spaces.
Families First/Saskatoon Director’s Association, Saskatoon, Canada
Provided training to child care directors for a full day on how to create naturalized spaces in the outdoor environment. Also provided a day long training to educators on their role in teaching young children about nature and the natural world.
Institute on Creating Sustainable Environments, Kansas City, MO
Provided three days of training on how to create healthier environments for children, staff and Mother Earth. Participants received a resource CD for parent and staff training.
BellaBoo’s Play and Discovery Garden, Crown Point IN
Completed the design development documents for the construction of a large one-acre children’s naturalized discovery play garden at one of our play and discovery centers. Events in the garden include a separate infant/toddler garden with a sensory garden, sensory boxes, pull up bars, peek a boo maze, small berms, stroller parking, diaper changing and a small wooden toddler pyramid. Events for the older children include a large themed dinosaur dig with a climbable dinosaur rib, head and tail, a dinosaur egg for hiding, a rock climbing area., performance area, bush maze, pretend fishing, willow huts, log balance beam, musical instruments, a bunny house farm and a secret forest that includes pretend camper, tents, a log cabin, pretend fire ring, a climbable snail, an oversized grasshopper climber and a butterfly garden. A re-circulating stream provides a place to play with damns and an Archimedes screw to move water from one location to another. A large tryke track will allow children to drive through the storage shed on their way to the pretend ATM machine.
Arkansas Head Start Association Annual Conference, Little Rock, AR
Provided a half-day training session to Early Head Start and Head Start directors and facilities planners on how to create healthier environments for young children. A session was also included on Healthy Foods. Each participant received a resource CD for staff and parent training.
