Imagine a kindergarten where the classroom is a garden -- or a forest. A Scottish expert on naturalized play has created an amazing program where kids spend most of the day outdoors. See a slide show of photos of Whistlebrae Nature Kindergarten in Scotland.
Our friend and colleague, Claire Warden, has been busy promoting naturalized play in Scotland and training teachers on how to better use the outdoor environment. We saw Claire at the World Forum on Nature Education this fall. See below a slide show of photos she shared at the Forum.
In January 2007, Whistlebrae Nature Kindergarten in Scotland opened its doors where children spend the majority of the day outdoors, either in the enclosed garden or in the woodlands. The curriculum is based on nature and uses natural materials found in the local environment or supplied through eco-friendly trade routes. For more pictures of the new school, visit

Congratulations to Claire for her hard work and dedication to naturalized play. Check out some of her resources on her website -- they are wonderful!
