Funtime Early Learning Academy, Naples, Florida

of a new building. Wrote an architectural program that reflects the needs
of their multi-component project. The proposed new building will have
classrooms for children ages infancy to 5 years, a community resource
room, staff work room, a resource room for parents, a multipurpose space,
art studio for children and visiting artists, a children's library,
a child wellness clinic and an area to showcase the history of this oldest
non-profit in Naples. The site will also have a rooftop garden for children
3-5 years and garden on the ground floor of the building for children
birth to 3.
Holy Trinity Catholic Parish, Lenexa, Kansas
Provided consultation to the parish on schematic drawings for a new early
education center for preschool children. Included a written evaluation
of the current building layout to create space that better meets the needs
of the different types of programs being offered.
Blue Springs School District Play Gardens, Blue Springs, Missouri
Completed design development drawings for two outdoor play gardens at
the new center that will be built for the early childhood program and
the multiple-disabled program. We worked on the interior design of the
building along with Hollis + Miller Architects. The early
childhood play garden will serve children ages 3 to 5 with a variety of
needs. It includes an adapted sand box, water play blocks, an art area
with accessible art easels, a regular riding track and an adaptive riding
track for therapy, adaptive trykes, a drive-thru tryke tunnel for storage
of trykes, raised garden beds, a musical turtle, a critter and butterfly
garden and an adapted climber with ramps and accessible stairs. The large
climber can also be used by primary age children in the multiple-disabled
program. The garden for the children in the multiple disabled program
includes a large sway swing that can be used by everyone including the
preschool children, a recirculating stream with waterfall, a proprioceptive
hammock, a wheelchair accessible nature trail, raised garden beds and
an accessible art area with clean up sinks. The gardens will be used by
both teachers and therapists in the program who had input in to the design
process.
