WCAA Head Start, Hendersonville, NC
Provided consultation to a local architect to complete the schematic floor layouts for this full day Head Start and Early Head Start program.

Spartanburg Regional Health Care System, New Child Development Center, Spartanburg, SC
Work continues on the floor and site layouts for a proposed child development center at the hospital serving children ages three months through 12 years. Work is proceeding on the creation of start-up budgets and a cost estimate for construction.

YMCA Lake County Early Head Start, Waukegan, IL
Provided a one-day consultation to Early Head Start in two locations on the use of the facility, room arrangement and space planning.

Gertrude B. Nielsen Child Care and Learning Center, Northbrook, IL
Provided a one-day consultation to this early care and education center on how to naturalize the outdoor space, particularly the infant space. A short presentation was provided for staff on the importance of nature and a design charette with infant teachers helped to fine-tune renovation plans. The Gertrude B. Nielsen Center was created in 1988 to serve working parents of corporations in the neighborhood. Teachers have degrees in Early Childhood Education or Child Development and the center is nationally accredited.

Operation Breakthrough, Kansas City, MO
Plans are being finalized for the construction documents for four outdoor play areas for this expansion project. The center serves high-risk families, including homeless families, and Head Start children. The outdoor yards were a challenge. Three of them were on the rooftop, so we had to work on details such as how to support plants on the roof and how to attach the equipment to the structure of the building. One of the gardens for infants and toddlers is below grade, so this presented its own challenges. We have created two infant/toddler gardens; a preschool play garden featuring a drive-through tricycle storage and shed; and a school-age children's playground with musical instruments for this urban renewal project.

Burrows Play Garden, Little Falls, NY.
Provided a one-day consultation to the Burrows family on the renovation of their yard into a play garden for their children. A master plan will be created this winter for the garden. The Burrows family has just built a 6,400-square-foot log home near the mountains, so the play garden will feature a log cabin playhouse. It is exciting to work on our FIRST home play garden for children. They couldn't be more enthusiastic as clients!
