There may be only one primary use for an object, but there are usually hidden uses that will be discovered by the children sooner or later. These discovered uses can be good or bad: Lego toys can become guns and milk carton crates can be used for seating and storage.
Keep in mind the double duty of each piece of equipment, game or tool you select. Take advantage of multiple uses that can further define children's experiences. Think of the physical qualities (height, length, weight, texture, ability to stack, movability, etc.) of equipment and a greater list of new uses will become a reality.
