Most popular alcoholic beverages for those who still drink

According to a July 2025 Gallup poll, the share of Americans who drink alcohol has fallen to a record low. Fifty-four percent of respondents reported that they sometimes drink wine, beer, or liquor. That's a 10-percent point drop from just 10 years ago. It's the lowest percent since 1939, when Gallup started surveying Americans on their drinking habits.

For adults who do drink, beer remains the most popular, followed by liquor.

Popularity differs by age. Beer remains the most popular choice among young and middle-aged adults, but for those aged 55 and over, wine is the most preferred alcoholic beverage.
