There is a strong perception that young adults, often labeled as Millennials, are the early adopters of new technology. However, the perception is not the reality. When we look at the data, we find that the entire 18 to 64 age group is almost identical in their rate of early adoption.
New technology products typically come to market with high price tags. Thus, not surprisingly, adults with family annual incomes of at least $150,000 tend to express a stronger preference for early technology adoption compared with those at middle- and lower-income levels. Adults with higher family income are also more likely to be internet users and to own cellphones, tablets and laptop or desktop computers.
Americans with an openness to experience and extroverts are also more likely to prefer new technology products.
