The changing composition of American households

Over just the past 20 years we've seen a significant shift in the composition of American households. This of course has an impact on the feasibility of different types of community leisure venues, including FECs. Today's households are less traditional than in the past.

Households without children now make up two-thirds of all households (68%). At the same time the number children has decreased to less than one-quarter of the population (23%). Single households have grown to over one quarter of all households (28%); there are now more single adults than there are children. The percent of married couples with children has decreased by almost one-quarter to less than one-fifth of all households (19%).
