The Peterson Companies, developers of National Harbor in Prince George’s County, Maryland, just 15 minutes south of downtown Washington, D.C., announced that Disney paid $11 million to acquire 15 acres of land in National Harbor for what is expected to be a family-themed resort hotel. The company would not confirm the exact size and construction date for its National Harbor hotel, “but it will be a project of significant scale and put a recognizable Disney footprint in the Washington area,” said Jay Rasulo, chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. Disney is already building a 350-hotel room and 480-vacation villa family-focused resort on Oahu in Hawaii, its first, for a reported $800 million.
