Consumers prefer independent restaurants
According to a report by foodservice consulting firm Pentallect (pentallect.com) in conjunction with research partner Critical Mix (www.criticalmix.com) , consumers prefer independent restaurants over the chains. The report predicts that from 2017 to 2020, independent restaurants will see an annual revenue growth of 4% to 5%, almost double the 2% to 3% expected from restaurant chains. The research found that consumers rate independent restaurants as more superior on 12 of 15 attributes. Consumers rated independent restaurants much more likely to be special, community oriented, sharing their values and offering personalized service. Independent restaurants were also much more likely to be perceived as offering quality food and better service.

This is very positive news for community leisure venues (CLVs) that take food and drink seriously, that consider it an anchor attraction. It means there's more than a fighting chance to compete as a dining destination with all the restaurant chains.
