Just like that summer is coming to an end and we're fast approaching the end of year holiday season. Coming up first will be Halloween, which has really grown in popularity and spending over the past decade or so. With it we've seen the rapid growth of fall and Halloween agritainment attractions, basically family entertainment on the farm venues. Today, the farmers own October with 100s and 100s of corn mazes, u-pick pumpkin patches, haunts and their over-the-top agritainment attractions. Many attract 100s of thousands of admission paying customers over a period of around six weeks and generate millions of dollars of revenue.
It's hard to believe farm corn mazes have been around since 1993 when Disney producer Don Frantz teamed up with world class maze designer Adrian Fisher (mazemaker.co.uk) to produce the first corn maze (www.lvc.edu/ News/ index.aspx?newsid=48b3b2aa-1e44-4687-96bb-b820c660b911 \& HeadLine=Nation%E2%80%99s%20First%20Corn%20Maze%20Rooted%20at%20LVC) in Annville, Pennsylvania. I was privileged to join Don and Adrian when they produced their second corn maze the following year in Shippensburg, PA. That's the same time we started working on with our first agritainment client, Davis Farmland in Massachusetts. You can read about Davis Farmland and their Davis Mega Maze, also designed by Adrian Fisher, in this eNewsletter (www.whitehutchinson.com/ news/ lenews/ 2016/ september/ article110.shtml#article) .
Since our last eNewsletter issue, we've taken on a number of new clients for projects in Gainesville, Florida; New York State; Orlando, Florida and the Commonwealth of Dominica in the Caribbean.
We recently worked with one of our clients to produce their business plan, which they presented to a bank for financing. The loan officer said their CEO was impressed and called the business plan “the best we've ever seen.” It's always rewarding to help our clients get such a positive reception from their potential funding sources.
Hope to see some of you at our 40th Foundations Entertainment University (www.foundationsuniversity.com) in Phoenix next month. We have a few half-price scholarships available. Check out the story in this issue (www.whitehutchinson.com/ news/ lenews/ 2016/ september/ article103.shtml#article) .
