Discovery Play Center - Lake Station, Indiana
The play and discovery center for children under the age of 8 and their parents has moved to the design development stage. We are beginning to prepare the construction documents. The center will include a train room, a pretend pizza restaurant, a pretend supermarket, a dress-up room, a performance area, a construction area, water tables, an interactive water wall feature, face painting, a library cave and cooking. Also included will be many pieces of custom furniture designed to accommodate all children, including those using wheelchairs and walkers. The center mascot will be an Indiana bat, and we have been working with our artists to create the costume for the mascot.

The outdoor garden at the Discovery Play Center has many unique features, such as a mastodon dig, real wooden musical instruments, a log cabin building, a pretend campground for children, rope climbing, rock climbing, pretend fishing, real fishing, animals and a separate garden for children under the age of 2.

Blue Springs Special Services Center - Blue Springs, Missouri
The bond issue for the construction of the special services center passed in Blue Springs, thanks to the hard work and dedication of the staff and the district. This is so exciting! Work is continuing with the Hollis + Miller Architects to take the design development drawings and develop them into construction documents. The center has 12 early childhood rooms, four rooms for children with multiple disabilities, 12 speech therapy rooms, an occupational and physical therapy room, testing rooms, time-out or reflection space, areas for swing therapy, a vision therapy room, health clinic, a social worker and group therapy room, a multipurpose space and a vocational room along with a vocational kitchen for students. The center includes specialized lighting, acoustics and finishes to meet the diverse needs of the children and young adults who use this space.
