PLAYGROUND MAY REQUIRE LICENSING FOR CONSTRUCTION
The National Playground Contractor's Association has developed a rough
outline of each state's requirements for construction of playgrounds.
The interesting things is that each state has its own set of requirements
and hardly any two are the same, with the exception of those that have no
requirements at all; from states like Nevada that require a contractor's
license for every construction trade to states like Texas that require no
licensing of any kind. Nineteen states require a specific license to construct
playgrounds:
Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Florida, Hawaii, Idaho,
Mississippi, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oregon, Tennessee,
Utah, Virginia, Washington and West Virginia.
Other states may require local licensing. You should check with your city
or county to find your requirements for legally constructing your play area.
You may be required to get building permits or pay other types of government
imposed costs or applications. For more information on state playground laws,
visit the website of the National Playground Contractors Association at www.playground-contractors.org
and click on "State Licensing" at the bottom of the home page.
